26 Jan Leadership Development Program – Leading Strategically
Markon’s LDP class is in its third and final phase of the leadership arc – leading strategically.
In the last session, we dove into Markon’s earlier strategic planning efforts, “Markon Strategic Vision 2012-2015.” Leigh reviewed the themes of Lead, Support, Diversify, Develop, and Grow, and the progress that was made. We discussed the strategic evolution to Markon’s DRIVE to 2020 strategic plan and how everyone can remain engaged in strategy.
Steve presented a review of Talk Like TED by Carmine Gallo. We discussed key elements of some of the best, most-viewed TED talks ever presented. Concepts included Unleash the Master Within, Master the Art of Storytelling, Have a Conversation, Teach Me Something New, Deliver Jaw-Dropping Moments, Lighten Up, Stick to the 18-minute Rule, Paint a Mental Picture with Multi-sensory Experience, and Stay in Your Lane. This session included specific guidance as we get ready for our capstone LDP event – our own TED talks in March!
We experienced several of Gallo’s concepts (including Unleash the Master Within, Teach Me Something New, and Multi-sensory Experience) in the afternoon’s executive wine tasting at Red, White and Blue Wines (pictured below). RWB Manager Tony demonstrated expertise and passion as he walked us through a tasting flight of some amazing wines. We learned about the each wine’s origins and unique elements.
In January, we will have our last session with Jen Van Meter and the Clearing. She will be reinforcing the strategic leadership concepts with several Primes. We look forward to another great session followed by peer advisory and coaching.
