16 Aug Markon Employees on Hand for ICC-B Garage Top-out
On August 9, 2013 several Markon employees from the Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda (ICC-B) Program Management Office (PMO) were on hand for an informal ceremony as the last precast concrete element was raised into place on the campus’ new parking garage. Built by Clark Construction and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this event caps off the structural phase of the two-year design-build construction project.
The garage provides the required parking area to replace nearly 10 acres of asphalt surface parking. Sizing and positioning the structure within the confines of the ICC-B north campus areas was a multi-stakeholder coordination effort, including the Intelligence Community owners, neighboring community members from Bethesda, Montgomery County, and the National Capital Planning Commission.
Markon project manager Andrew Weaver has been involved with the garage effort since the contract was awarded in September 2011. He recalled that active construction began with groundbreaking in May 2012, culminating 15 months later on August 9 with the placement of the final “double T” piece in the garage’s northwest corner.
Joining Andrew for the ceremony were Eric Sterud, Construction Manager, and Jim Turner, Deputy Program Manager. Meanwhile, Markon continues to support the ICC-B PMO, where the focus of activities is transitioning to construction and renovation projects on the south campus, with program completion planned in August 2016.
