10 Jul Markon Leadership Development Program Special Guest, Martha Johnson
For our June session, the Markon Leadership Development Program hosted a special guest, former Administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA), Martha Johnson. Martha was a colleague of LDP facilitator Steve Genn while working at Touchstone Consulting Group.
Martha is currently a speaker and author. She is a graduate of Oberlin College and Yale Graduate School of Management.
Martha published her first novel in 2012, In Our Midst. Her second book focuses on Leadership; due out in the fall of 2013 it is titled, On My Watch. The book includes many insights which she gained while serving for both the Clinton and Obama Administrations.
Martha’s presentation previewed some of the new book topics, focusing on The Government Client, Decision Making, Leading Big Change, and Building Networks. The LDP group was able to gain a lot of insights from the perspective of a Government leader in a very interactive setting. Martha provided some incredible concepts including Leading in the Dark, Pull Metrics (including the Zero Footprint Pull Metric she implemented at GSA), and Designing Meetings. She finished up with an exercise on our personal networks, emphasizing how important her network has been throughout her career.
Thank you to Martha Johnson for spending the morning with our team and sharing so much great information. We are all looking forward to reading On My Watch.
